This lovely print is a reworked version of a 1960s rail poster which features the famous ferry – the Duke of Lancaster. The ship sailed mainly between Heysham in Lancashire and Belfast in Northern Ireland, and was actually operated by British Railways. Following its retirement from service, the Duke of Lancaster was beached on the bank of the River Dee on the North Wales coast, where it became something of a tourist attraction. It has remained there to this day, though sadly it’s not in the best condition now. This print really captures the nautical spirit of the days when rail and sea formed seamless links around the British Isles.
